About the Gifford Arboretum

The Arboretum is a collection of trees and plants maintained for education and research purposes, with interpretive signage aQG individual identification tags on each plant. The Arboretum is also a place of peace and for connection with nature, and an additional purpose of the Arboretum and its programs is to inspire greater interest in tropical plants and a better understanding of their importance.

The Gifford Arboretum is run by the Department of Biology and the Friends of the Gifford Arboretum Committee which consists of faculty, students, administrators, and community members. It is a collection of important trees and plants that have been assembled for the purposes of eduction and research.

The John C. Gifford Arboretum is located in the north side of the Coral Gables campus and behind the Knight Physics building.
